I've bought every Nintendo console up to now. But after looking at that thing... I think Nintendo has finally lost it. My Xbox 360 is already preordered, and right now I see no reason to spend anything on the gimmick they call "Revolution". It's a sad day because I've always loved Nintendo. But I think this is going to be their last stand. After this thing flops (Gamecube wasn't exactly well received) they probably won't make another home console again.

I think they're just trying way too hard to innovate. Things like dual screens, touch-sensitive screens, motion sensitivity and in one case even light-sensitivity. Why not just spend more time making the console work or making the games fun? Do they really need another oddity?

That said, I'm still going to give it a try. If only so I can play the next smash bros.

hey! Who said Nintendo games aren't fun? I don't think any person who isn't insane who doesn't like Ninetndo games, it's like not liking Forrest Gump

Edit: Found a Better quality video

The first is pictures, the second is a pretty poor cam recording of a commercial showing how they intend to use it.

Duck Hunt:2006 anyone? Too bad it doesn't look like a gun.

Honestly when I look at it I think that they've made a console devoted to mini-games. I just can't see any serious gaming on that thing.

Nintendo might have been the first to use actual designers to make games, but after that concept got old, others simply outdid them. Sorry Miyamoto, you were once great.

Nintendo has always made the controllers that everyone else tries to copy.. there will elegance and balance with this controller. There is something about it that you'll not know until you have it in your hands. People said the same thing about the N64 controller, but it was genious. They spend MILLIONS in R&D to design stuff like this.

How exactly was the N64 controller genius? The N64 was probably the biggest flop of a console that didn't put its company completely out of business. Ok... that had more to do with their stubborn use of cartridges instead of optical media. But the Playstation's Dual Shock was probably more influential.

I could certainly see this as a peripheral for a system, there are some game types that I could see it being very complimentary with. But as the primary controller? I'm afraid I just don't see it.

I praise Nintendo on trying to be different. They are taking an enourmous risk, as they are attempting to cater for hard-core gamers, casual gamers and non-gamers. This could well be their final console as unlike Sony and Microsoft they have no other real business to fall back on. Despite never having owned any of their consoles and never getting into Zelda way back, I still think it will be a great loss should this be their last stand.
Its all or nothing, and i say lets have a revolution.

Nintendo is from outer space and/or Japan. I praise N's innovation, but some things people are just not ready for. I love N as much as the next guy (well, prolly no hardcore fanboys), but this thing is ridonculous. Serously, I loved Super Mario Bros, but I dont want to play it again having to make Mario jump by using a DVD remote. Plus, I'm getting bad flash backs of the Power Glove.

N may have fun/inovative games, (that new Mario Baseball for GC is insanely fun) but they will never be able to complete with the glitz and the marketing onslaught of M$ and Sony.

I'll stick with WASD and a mouse

It seems like they will have seriously limited the types of games you can play with this sort of controler. And also jepordising the compatability between the other two consols with the mass released games, more importantly companies will not want to make games specialized for this wierd controler. I think this is a really bad idea.

I agree with synthos, and i was going to get a revolution based solely on backwars capability they were toying with. if i could DL the legend of zelda, or SMB i dont think i could play them on that thing!

Dual Shock was more influential because PS sold better. NGC's controller is awesome, it just fits perfectly, it won't hurt your fingers, ...

I read a hands on (in french, hands-on), they seemed very impressed while playing a FPS (Metroid) with the nunchuku thingy. I'll admit I'm curious.

Well, look at the picture. If you turn the thing 90° ... you have a NES controller.

Hopefully it will be easy to program for/use with 'classic' games. It would be a shame to see this die because of a lack of game. I'm kind perplexed by N's attitude toward novelty : they're making a lot of touchy games for the DS, so much they seem to neglect a more mainstream approach.

Mmm ... I dont see how people can say it sucks/is great without having actually used it. That is just insipid.

Personally I think it looks ... interesting ... and am curious if you will end up with your arm tired. Other than that, saying 'they lost it' without having used it makes no sense. Remember, Nintendo created a 'revolution' when they went from Joystick-style (Atari) to D-Pad controller.
